We Love Eyes: non toxic eye make up remover |vegan & cruelty free|

We all love that water proof, smudge proof eye makeup until it’s time to take that baby off! Because our eyes/lids are such a delicate and sensitive area its crucial that its handled gently and with ingredients we can trust. Thanks to the optometrists from the We Love Eyes brand, a product like this finally exists!

We Love Eyes (WLE) was founded by Dr. Tanya Gill after she noticed an alarming amount of her patients [who wore contacts] were suffering from chronically irritated, dry/red eyes. It dawned on her that the culprit may be the harmful chemicals in eye makeup removers which inspired her to create a formula of her own. Unlike the disappointing products on the market, WLE managed to create a non toxic, vegan and cruelty free solution to the problem.

The company’s main products are offered in two forms: oil and foam cleansers. The oil options are created for either makeup removal or eyelid cleansing while the foam solely acts as a cleanser for both the eyes and upper face area. WLE was kind enough to send me “The Kit” which includes both the eye cleansing make up remover oil and foaming cleanser.

Lets start with the oil.

The oil comes in a dark glass bottle with a dropper attached that serves as the lid. The base of the formula is organic tea tree oil which contains powerful antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. Other active ingredients include organic jojoba and grape seed oil which also contain fantastic minerals and fatty acids for the skin. Although you can smell the tea tree scent in the oil it isn’t overpowering like the concentrated versions of it. The consistency is similar to coconut oil – not too thick, not too runny.

The suggested use recommends placing 2-5 drops of oil on a cotton pad and removing contact lenses before application. As a contact wearer myself, I have to admit I didn’t remove mine and thankfully had no issues with burning or irritation. I was extremely careful to not get it in my eyes however and recommend doing the same with or without your contact lenses in.

Anyhoo, after hours of wearing heavy makeup (including eye shadow, eyeliner and waterproof mascara) I used about 4 drops of the oil on an organic cotton pad [purchased at Walgreens ;)] and placed it over my eye. I let it sit for about 30 seconds or so and gently wiped the makeup off. For the most part I was able to remove all the makeup with 4 drops but did find I needed to add that last recommended drop to completely get it clean.

**I should note that I also used this to remove the pomade from my filled in brows too!

I repeated the same steps for my other eye and was happy to not have my eyes feel dehydrated and stripped like it does when using some other makeup removers or baby wipes (let’s be honest, we’ve all used baby wipes before!).

I then followed up with the foaming cleanser.

The cleanser’s main base is also tea tree oil. Though the ingredient list in this product is a tad bit longer than I care for (primarily due to its foaming ability), it’s still significantly cleaner than any other conventional product alternatives. A few other beneficial ingredients it contains is honeysuckle, grape seed oil and radish root. The bottle comes with a small attached pump for easy use and a cap for storage.

After my makeup was removed with the oil, I used about 2 pumps onto my clean palm and rubbed it into my eye lids and upper face area. I also made sure to keep my eyes closed tightly shut as the formula is NOT tear free aka it’ll burn haha. The foam also has a light tea tree scent but is not over whelming. My face/eyes felt soft and extremely clean after combining this with the oil. At this point all my makeup was completely removed with no residue left.

Overall I was very happy with these products and will definitely continue to use it for my eye makeup removal routine. Though both worked very well, I would say the star of the two was the oil and highly recommend giving this a try! I was really impressed with how well it took off my tough waterproof makeup with such ease! I think if this was followed up by your normal cleanser it would work just as well as the foam duo.

Taking care of your eyes is so important for obvious reasons and I urge you to take a closer look at what you’re putting on to them. I hope this review helped if you’re in the market for a great non toxic eye makeup remover! As always feel free to shoot me a comment with any questions you have 🙂

    1. Hi! If you’re someone who wears eye makeup regularly I think this product is great. It also helps take off all waterproof makeup so even if you just wear a good mascara this product is very helpful!
